Thoughts on Diet and Eating
Master Chee’s book on health points out that everything should be eaten in season and in line with the environment with which you live. It is becoming more common for people to suffer from wheat allergies and dairy products, although I do eat dairy products and wheat I do so in small doses, but we must pay heed not only to what we eat but the process of digestion itself. Here are some guidelines to follow for a healthy digestive system:
Eat in a quiet and settled atmosphere: Many of us divide our attention by working, reading, listening to the radio or watching the TV whilst eating.
Always sit down to eat: This enables your digestive process to be more thorough.
Do not eat when you are upset: This is in accord with the liver and spleen
relationship, anger or irritability will have a detrimental effect on the spleen and thereby the digestive system will be out of balance.
Do not over eat: When the stomach is too full, food is incompletely metabolised, as the digestive enzymes basically do not have the space to function effectively.
Avoid ice-cold foods and drinks: They literally freeze the digestive system.
Do not talk with your mouth full: It makes sense, your senses should be turned inward in order to enjoy the taste, sight, and aroma of the meal.
Eat at a moderate pace: take time to chew your food, give meal times the respect they deserve, this appears to be an area of consideration which is fast disappearing, fast food has no energy, eating too quickly is like weakening a tree at its root.
Do not eat again until you have fully digested your last meal: Do not eat unless you feel hungry, it is not necessary. Hunger is natures way of saying I have digested the last meal.
Sit quietly for a while after eating: It allows the digestive system to begin its process.
