Shen Dao - Tai Chi Chuan

Berkshire: Twyford Youth and Community Centre
02 October 2010 - 03 October 2010

SHEN DAO (The Way of the Spirit) is the vehicle for the Martial Arts teachings formulated and developed by Raymond Towers, founder of the UKTQF.

Shen Dao has its foundations in the Chinese Internal Martial Arts System and Chinese Health and Medical Theory, providing practitioners with a complete and balanced training system.

Shen Dao follows the natural process of the 5 Elements and the Yijing (I Ching) and is based upon the Chinese Internal Martial Arts systems of Baguazhang, Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), Xingyiquan and Fung Shou, each taught from both a health and martial perspective.

Tai Chi Chuan is practised daily by millions of people around the world for its benefits to health and relaxation. As a health exercise, Tai Chi Chuan has been scientifically proven to stimulate the nervous system, improve balance, lower blood pressure, tone muscles and induce relaxation. Less well known is Tai Chi Chuan's martial side. Using "softness overcomes hardness" or "4 ounces to move 1000lbs" as guidelines, the Tai Chi Chuan practitioner seeks to neutralize any incoming attack and then to exploit the resultant imbalance.

You will first of all focus on health, and practitioners will learn a series of postures linked in sequence to create a flowing exercise of smooth, continuous and round movements. After this you will have the opportunity to discover Tai Chi Chuan as an internal martial art as well as a moving meditation, and appreciate the complimentary aspects of self-defence and spiritual cultivation as you master the foundation practices of Shen Dao.

The core principles of Tai Chi Chuan are the gateway to a fascinating world of health and wellbeing, grace and balance, internal energy flow and power. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, mastering these principles under the expert teaching of the founder of the UKTQF will allow you to enjoy Tai Chi Chuan and related practices as they are meant to be – fluid, balanced, vibrant and effective.
