Tai Chi Qi Gong for the Older Person

Age does not need to be a barrier to taking up exercise. If people have not been active participants in exercise for a number of years due to illness, disease or a lack interest an accessible structured approach is required for positive sustained results.

Inactivity is a major risk to health in old age. It is now accepted that many age-related changes that were once assumed to be solely the result of the ageing process are partly the result of disease, and largely due to inactivity. Increasingly, doctors and health care professionals are recommending exercise for the older person, and the general benefits of exercise, continued throughout life, are now widely acknowledged.
Many studies have proved that the capacity of elderly people for physical exercise can be improved with training just as with young people. Consequently, health, functional ability and quality of life can be improved substantially with an appropriate exercise programme.

The UKTQF has developed a programme that people will be able to incorporate into their daily lives, providing a proactive approach to health and wellbeing of the individual at home as well as in the comfort of a learning environment.
